THE SMUGGLER'S TRAIL

Following the ancient smuggling trails that once connected Galicia and Portugal, this six-day horseback expedition takes us through some of the wildest and most remote landscapes of the Atlantic coast. Riding on horseback, we cross mountains and forests inhabited by wild horses, gallop through vineyards, ford rivers and follow coastal trails all the way to the long Atlantic beaches. Each day brings new villages, new stories and a different way of travelling, where the horse sets the pace and the journey is just as important as the destination.

Frequently asked questions

What riding level is required?

Our rides are designed for intermediate to advanced riders who are confident at walk, trot and canter in open terrain. Our horses are young, forward-going and full of personality. Riders should feel comfortable spending several hours in the saddle and riding on varied, technical terrain.

What is the maximum rider weight?

For the welfare of our horses, the maximum rider weight is 85 kg (187 lbs).

Is it suitable for solo riders?

Absolutely! In fact, most of our guests travel solo. Our small groups create a friendly atmosphere, making it easy to connect with like-minded people who share a passion for horses and adventure.

How many riders are in each group?

We keep our groups small, with a maximum of six riders, allowing for a more personal experience and ensuring the highest level of care for both our guests and our horses.

What happens if it rains?

Galicia is known for its lush green landscapes, and occasional rain is part of what makes it so beautiful. We provide waterproof rain ponchos, and unless weather conditions become unsafe, we continue riding and make the most of the adventure.

What is the pace/speed of the rides?

Our routes follow ancient mountain and coastal trails, so much of the riding is at a walk due to the technical terrain and steep ascents. However, whenever conditions allow, we enjoy daily opportunities for long trots and canters.
